Walking Isn't Enough! Strengthen Your Chest, Shoulders, Back, Legs, and Core for More Stable and Powerful Movements
Walking increases activity and cardio, but to get stronger when standing up, climbing stairs, or carrying groceries, you need strength training. You need to work your chest, shoulders, back, legs, and core. Resistance bands allow adjustable tension, so first master the movements with good form, then increase the resistance. 🔷Chest: Seated band chest press; Wall push-ups (the closer you are to the wall, the easier). 🔷Shoulders: Seated front raise; Lateral raise (don't push through shoulder pain). 🔷Back: Seated row (lightly squeeze shoulder blades, don't shrug shoulders); Horizontal pull (engage your back muscles). 🔷Legs/Glutes: Sit-to-stand (control the movement); Seated hip abduction (knees move outward). 🔷Core: Seated alternating knee raise; Hand-to-knee resistance (engage for 5-10 seconds, don't hold your breath). You don't have to do it all at once. A Set: Chest press + Front raise + Row + Sit-to-stand + Knee raise B Set: Wall push-up + Lateral raise + Horizontal pull + Hip abduction + Hand-to-knee resistance Do this 2-3 times a week, alternating A and B. Aim for 8-12 reps per exercise for 1 set, increasing to 2 sets once you're comfortable. Resistance should be challenging on the last few reps while maintaining good form. ⚠️Reminder: Check the resistance band for tears; exhale when exerting force, inhale on the return; move slowly, don't force through joint pain; stop immediately if you experience chest tightness, pain, shortness of breath, or dizziness; consult a professional before starting if you have had surgery, are at high risk of falls, or have cardiovascular or serious joint issues. ‼️Nutritionist's Tip: Sufficient protein intake is crucial for muscle strength. Include sources like beans, fish, eggs, and meat in your three meals, along with vegetables and staple carbohydrates – you don't need to cut out carbs entirely. Eating too little is detrimental to maintaining muscle. If you have chronic kidney disease or protein restrictions, follow your doctor's advice. Build up your muscle strength to be more powerful when standing, walking, climbing stairs, and carrying items. Just looking at this makes me feel lazy... anyone who actually does this must be super healthy 🤣
