Restaurant Owner's Bold Response to Negative Review Criticizing Free Meals for Firefighters
A long-standing beef noodle shop in Taichung, 'Shang Hong Yuan Taiwanese Beef Noodle', which was once recognized as one of 'Taichung's Top 100 Bowls', has recently become embroiled in controversy due to a negative review. The restaurant has been offering free meals to firefighters on weekdays for years. A customer left a negative review on Google, stating, 'If you offer discounts exclusively to a specific profession, ordinary people won't want to patronize your business.' In response to the criticism, the owner boldly replied, 'This is my freedom, did I ask you to pay?' He emphasized that firefighters risk their lives to save people in emergencies, adding, 'It's my business to offer free meals to firefighters for over a decade! It's not your place to dictate.' He also mentioned that receiving one-star reviews doesn't affect his 20-year-old establishment, stating, 'I don't need to exchange benefits for five-star reviews.' The owner further explained that this act of kindness originated from the 2015 Xinyi Fire in Taoyuan, where six firefighters tragically lost their lives. At the time, he was a stay-at-home dad caring for his one-year-old daughter. Thinking that the fallen firefighters were also someone's children deeply moved him. He made a promise then and there: 'As long as this shop exists, this offer will never be canceled!' He admitted that his small shop couldn't afford to donate fire trucks, but he could at least provide firefighters with a hot meal for free. This gesture has continued for 11 years. After the incident came to light, a large number of netizens showed their support, with many commenting that they would 'teach the owner a lesson with their money' and expressed their intention to support this goodwill through actual purchases.
