Acceptance, Understanding

In an era where everything strives for positivity, we are constantly urged to be optimistic, strong, and to see the bright side. However, is 'pessimism' truly just a flawed mindset that needs correction? In reality, pessimism is a profound clarity. Optimism allows us to see the distant starlight, while pessimism lets us clearly see the mud beneath our feet. Someone who habitually prepares for the worst is often not weak, but rather holds a sense of awe and caution towards the world. They see the fragility behind the prosperity, the cooling down after the fervor. This keen sense of crisis is the key wisdom that allowed our ancestors to survive in the harshness of nature. Forced optimism, a smile plastered on, can sometimes be mere escapism from reality. Conversely, candid pessimism is a true form of courage. When we allow ourselves to be pessimistic, we no longer need to expend energy maintaining the perfect mask of 'everything is fine.' We acknowledge life's limitations, admit that some wounds cannot be healed, and some losses can never be compensated. Pessimism is not about giving up effort, but about learning not to excessively crave outcomes after seeing through life's impermanence. When you are mentally prepared for the worst, every small good thing that happens in life becomes an unexpected gift. Allowing yourself to be pessimistic is allowing yourself to be an ordinary person with flesh and blood. Embrace your shadows, for it is there you can find the most authentic and grounded peace.
