Why do phones often 'reboot' instead of breaking when dropped on the floor?
This is due to the 'Physical Instant Power-Off Protection' in smartphone circuit design! Modern smartphones internally connect the battery to the motherboard using metal contacts (Pogo Pins) or spring clips. When a phone impacts the ground at high speed, the battery's internal plates and external metal contacts momentarily bounce apart (Bouncing) by micrometers due to immense 'gravitational acceleration (G-force)' and inertia, potentially lasting only a few milliseconds (ms). Semiconductor chips are extremely sensitive to voltage. If the power supply is interrupted for even a fraction of a millisecond, the low-voltage cutoff (UVLO) mechanism on the motherboard is triggered, forcibly shutting down operations to protect the memory and chips from damage caused by voltage instability. Once the contacts reconnect, the phone automatically restarts!

If you had a soft phone case, the impact wouldn't be as big, but I can't guarantee the parts inside are okay 🥹
