When Should You Actually Change Jobs? Some Recent Thoughts

Lately, many friends around me have been talking about changing jobs. Some complain about being tired every day but have stayed for three to five years, while others, seemingly stable, suddenly resign. This has made me start thinking, 'What signals indicate that it's the 'optimal time' to decisively leave?' I've summarized three of the most obvious indicators: Internal drain far outweighs growth: If every morning you wake up feeling oppressed and heavy at the thought of going to work, to the point where it affects your sleep and physical health, it means the work environment or culture is no longer suitable for you. No amount of salary is worth sacrificing your health and mental well-being. You're stuck in a repetitive 'mechanical loop': When you realize you're no longer learning anything new in your current job, just burning through past experience daily, and the company offers no new challenges or promotion paths, you should be wary that you might be in a stagnant phase of your comfort zone. You've lost hope in the company or industry: When you look at the lifestyle of your boss or senior colleagues and your thought isn't 'I want to be like them someday,' but rather 'I absolutely do not want to become like that,' that's often the most direct answer. Changing jobs is never an impulsive decision; it requires clearly thinking through the reasons for 'exiting' and for your 'next step.' If you meet two or more of these three conditions, it might really be time to update your resume and explore the outside world. What do you all think? At what moment do you usually decide to submit your resignation?

I used to feel like the effort outweighed the reward, and the company had no intention of rebalancing things, even wanting to squeeze out a little more whenever possible. But I don't think a stagnant comfort zone is a bad thing. It allows ample time to rest and relax, or even to enrich yourself in the same or similar fields, provided it's truly a comfort zone and not just your life being filled with repetitive, mechanical tasks.
