New Taipei City's Tamsui has a new free tourist attraction! Hidden near Tamsui Old Street, the century-old municipal historic site "Tamsui Japanese Merchant Nakano Residence" officially opens its doors on October 3, 2026, after restoration. This three-story Japanese-Western style mansion was originally the private residence of Japanese merchant Kintaro Nakano during the Japanese colonial era. After the war, it served as the residence for the head of a naval shipyard and even had a private swimming pool added. The building now preserves exquisite brick exteriors, Japanese wooden windows, a fireplace, and remnants of the swimming pool. It's open for free year-round, closing at 5 PM on weekdays and 6 PM on weekends. When visiting Tamsui, besides Fort San Domingo and the Former British Consulate at Takow, you can also step into this historic Western-style house and admire the architectural features from different periods. This place sounds somewhat interesting. I'm not really a fan of crowded places, though... But I guess visiting old houses with a historical vibe like this once in a while wouldn't be too bad? =^._.^= ∫
