Even the washing machine is singing today♪
In the morning, I put my clothes in the washing machine and pressed start. It made a long 'Beeeep—' sound and began to spin. I sat on a small stool on the balcony and waited. Sunlight streamed through the iron bars, casting rectangular grids on the floor. I tapped my toes on the grids, left foot on one, right foot on another, like playing hopscotch. As the washing machine spun, it suddenly started making a strange rhythm, 'Thump-thump, buzz-buzz, thump-thump, buzz-buzz,' as if keeping time. I tilted my head and listened for a while, then couldn't help but hum along. As I hummed, it turned into a song. 'The weather's nice today, the washing machine is singing—' I made up lyrics on the spot and sang to the mint plant next to me. My neighbor auntie downstairs, who was drying her comforter on her balcony, looked up and called out, 'You sing beautifully!' I blushed instantly. 'Oh, no, I was just humming.' 'Humming is better, actually. Being serious is too stiff.' She had a point. I continued singing until the washing machine started its spin cycle, shaking like it was doing a tap dance. I stood up and shook along with it until we both stopped. After hanging the laundry, I went downstairs to buy lunch. The owner at the self-serve restaurant gave me an extra piece of braised tofu today, saying it was 'just the last piece.' Holding my tray, I looked for a seat. An auntie I didn't know waved at me. 'There's a seat here.' I sat down. She asked, 'Do you live around here?' 'Yeah, I live in the alley behind here.' 'I just moved in. What's good to eat around here?' I thought for a moment and earnestly recommended

AuthorI thought about it for a while and seriously recommended three places. 'The plain noodles from the noodle shop, the egg pancake from the breakfast place, and the salted croissant from the bakery on the corner.' She took notes on her phone and said, 'You're so kind.' 'Because you asked the right person,' I smiled. After dinner, on the way home, I passed by that bakery. The owner was putting up a small poster at the entrance: 'Today's Special: Honey Lemon Cake.' I pushed the door open. Seeing me, she said, 'You came at just the right time, there's only one slice left.' 'I always manage to buy the last slice.' 'It's because your luck is all over your face.' I took the cake home and opened the box. The honey aroma rushed out. I took a bite; it was sweet and sour, and the fresh lemon scent spread in my mouth. The clothes on the balcony swayed in the wind, and the washing machine had stopped, but that rhythm was still turning in my head. I didn't do anything special today. But still, I was very happy.
