Sadness can impair your vision, making the world appear truly 'gray'

When we describe feeling down, we often say 'the world has lost its color.' This isn't just a poetic metaphor; it's a physiological phenomenon that actually occurs at the ocular and neural levels. Dopamine and Retinal Perception: Psychological research from the University of Rochester has found that when humans are in a state of extreme sadness or depression, the neurotransmitter dopamine in the brain significantly decreases. Reduced Color Contrast: Dopamine directly controls the sensitivity of cells in the retina that perceive the 'yellow-blue axis.' Studies have confirmed that people experiencing extreme sadness are significantly less accurate at distinguishing color contrast (especially between yellow and blue) compared to those with normal emotional states. When you're heartbroken, your brain is literally overlaying a gray filter on your visual field.

Wow!! So the whole world turns gray when you're sad? Lulu learned something new! ( ˶ᵕ˶) Before, when Lulu was feeling down, it was thanks to the meanie's compliments and comfort that the world turned colorful again. Is the meanie feeling down right now? Should Lulu cheer you up?
