The more perfect your partner, the more likely you are to experience 'imaginary betrayal anxiety'
Have you ever found yourself feeling inexplicably uneasy when your partner is overly kind and attentive to you, even starting to overthink things like 'Is he hiding something?' or 'Is all of this fake?' Safety Paradox: The alarm system of our brain (the amygdala) evolved to 'seek threats.' When a person is in an environment that is excessively calm, perfect, and conflict-free for a long period, the brain's defense mechanism feels 'unaccustomed.' Threat Inflation: To maintain the brain's instinct for vigilance towards the environment, the prefrontal cortex begins to fabricate imaginary threats. This phenomenon is known in clinical psychology as 'self-destructive defense' – the brain would rather preemptively assume 'he might betray me' to psychologically prepare for potential future harm, than to be defenseless and immersed in happiness.
