Liver Problems Don't Always Start With Pain! 7 Changes to Watch For
When your liver isn't feeling well, it often doesn't start with 'pain'. ① Teeth | Frequent bleeding when brushing If bleeding becomes more frequent, and is accompanied by easy bruising, nosebleeds, or a yellowish complexion, it's not advisable to keep putting it off. ② Diet | Loss of appetite, frequent nausea Sudden loss of appetite, feeling queasy at the sight of greasy food, or frequent nausea. If this doesn't improve for several consecutive days and is accompanied by fatigue and weight loss, you should get checked out as soon as possible. ③ Skin | Dullness, yellowish tint, recurring acne Your skin noticeably turns yellow, or you develop widespread itching at the same time. ④ Eyes | Dryness, swelling, or yellowing of the whites Dry eyes and blurred vision are often related to excessive screen time, dry eye syndrome, or lack of sleep. However, if the whites of your eyes gradually turn yellow, it's more than just not enough rest. ⑤ Mood | Irritability, fatigue, poor memory Becoming easily agitated, feeling low on energy, and experiencing memory decline don't necessarily mean you have 'liver fire'. What's more important is whether these changes are continuously worsening. ⑥ Bowel Movements | Abnormal stools, dark urine Sticky, foul-smelling stools are often related to diet or gut health. Yellowish urine might just mean you're not drinking enough water. But if your urine consistently becomes dark like tea, and your stools simultaneously become lighter in color, you should be vigilant. ⑦ Other | Bloating, increased flatulence Increased gas and abdominal bloating are often related to eating too quickly, consuming gas-producing foods, constipation, or sensitive bowels. If your abdomen continuously enlarges, feels tight to the touch, and is accompanied by poor appetite, leg swelling, or abnormal weight changes, you shouldn't just dismiss it as ordinary bloating.
