High-Speed Rail Introduces Double-Decker Luggage Racks: Easier to Store Large Bags
Taiwan High Speed Rail (THSR) has officially launched its first 700T train equipped with "double-decker luggage racks," primarily aimed at solving the issue of insufficient storage space for large luggage. This is part of the "THSR 2.0" upgrade plan, making it more convenient for passengers to travel with large bags in the future. * Significantly Increased Storage Capacity After the modification, the large luggage storage capacity per 700T train has increased from the original 61 items to 106 items, adding 45 more spots. The entire train has 19 large luggage areas, surpassing the storage capacity of Japan's Shinkansen. THSR stated that the fleet will undergo modifications sequentially, with completion expected by the end of this year. This means that passengers carrying large suitcases for international travel, business trips, or returning home will be less likely to encounter situations where luggage areas are full and they have to stuff their bags in the aisles or next to their seats. * Usage Rules to Note However, the "double-decker luggage racks" are exclusively for large luggage measuring 26 inches (inclusive) or larger. Carry-on bags or smaller luggage under 26 inches should still be placed on the overhead racks above the seats and should not occupy the large luggage areas, to reserve space for those who truly need it. * Impact on Passengers This modification will be particularly beneficial for frequent high-speed rail users who need to carry large luggage, such as those on business trips, vacations, transporting equipment, or traveling with elders. Having a fixed and more ample space for luggage not only facilitates smoother boarding and alighting but also reduces inconvenience caused by luggage obstructing the aisles.
