Weekend Weather Overview
The autumn rain front will shift slightly northward, losing its influence. Kanto is expected to see clear skies for the first time in several days, with temperatures predicted to reach 30 degrees Celsius. If you plan to dry laundry outdoors, today is the day to do it. Looking at the two-week forecast, the next sunny day is scheduled for Monday, two weeks from now. While the temperature will rise due to strong southerly winds, the wind is expected to keep the perceived temperature from feeling excessively hot. On the other hand, as the front moves north, Hokushinetsu and Tohoku regions need to be wary of rain. Strong westerly winds are likely to bring intermittent rain clouds to these areas. The Japan Meteorological Agency has forecast heavy rainfall, potentially reaching warning levels, so extreme caution is advised regarding inland flooding, rising river levels, and landslides. The short-term forecast indicates that Kanto's clear weather will only last for today. Tomorrow, due to the rapid southward shift of the front and the continued southerly winds, strong rain is anticipated along the Pacific coast. With the possibility of sudden showers predicted for the evening, it's best to make the most of the precious daylight hours. The long-term outlook suggests a generally cloudy and rainy period for the next two weeks.

『Ensuring Indoor Safety』 The Option of Sheltering Without Going Outside
Today, we'll consider methods of sheltering during heavy rainfall, specifically the option of not going outside. In the case of short-term, rapid heavy downpours, which have been prominent in recent years,無理な (unreasonable/forced) outdoor movement can be fatal for the following reasons: - The disaster progresses faster than the time it takes to reach a shelter. - The evacuation route or designated shelter is in a low-lying or dangerous area. - Roads become submerged, or one might fall into irrigation ditches, etc. - Poor visibility makes movement difficult. When outdoor movement is dangerous like this, there's an effective option after confirming the safety of your current building, such as its height, seismic resistance, and ground stability. That option is 『Ensuring Indoor Safety』. Here are two main methods: ◎Vertical Evacuation: Move to a higher floor in preparation for flooding. ◎Indoor Retreat: Move to a room away from a cliff in preparation for landslides. Combining these, such as moving to a room on the second floor or higher and on the opposite side from a cliff, is also effective. However, the choice to stay put, while avoiding the risks of moving, also carries the risk of becoming isolated in the disaster area due to the stoppage of lifelines or delayed rescue. Therefore, please keep in mind that preparedness and early evacuation should always be prioritized, and remember this as one of the options during a disaster.

Long-Term Weather Forecast Outlook
The autumn rain front is expected to continue lingering, with intermittent signs of clouds and rain. The Japan Meteorological Agency is urging caution, noting the possibility of temporary heavy rainfall. Regarding temperature trends, while highs are forecast to reach 30 degrees Celsius, the lingering heat will be moderate. As temperatures are likely to stay below the summer day threshold, it can be said that the intense summer has come to an end. Analyzing the weather charts, the autumn rain front is expected to momentarily move north from Honshu but remain stationary, with no significant changes in weather conditions. On the other hand, a considerably strong low-pressure system has been identified in the South China Sea for next weekend, Saturday. Given the situation, there is a high probability of it developing into a tropical depression and subsequently a typhoon. As the autumn rain front will still be present at that time, it's necessary to prepare for the possibility of heavy rainfall occurring again from a long-term perspective. This is an optimal period to prepare by checking water levels around your home, the routes for evacuation, and whether you'll use underpasses on your commute or school routes. While you can quickly notice flooding on foot, drivers tend to push through. It's advisable to keep in mind the dangers involved when driving through water.

Rationality of Not Evacuating During Disasters
One month after the August 2026 Chiba heavy rains, Chiba Prefecture is summarizing the event. The number of flooded properties reached over 7,000, with 13 fatalities. The initial estimate of over 2,700 flooded vehicles was clarified to only include vehicles left on public roads. According to reports from non-life insurance companies, nearly 17,000 vehicles are undergoing insurance claim reviews, believed to be due to large-scale flooding of parking spaces in low-lying areas. Six of the deceased drowned in underpasses or flooded public roads in low-lying areas. After the disaster, the Chiba National Highway Office imposed traffic restrictions simultaneously with the activation of Level 4 alert, and the prefecture is now considering the possibility of additionally closing prefectural and municipal roads. Furthermore, at least five of the deceased are confirmed to have died in accidents while walking on the street. Witness accounts state they were swept away while clinging to a utility pole or fell into a ditch or irrigation channel after losing their footing. In response, the prefectural governor reiterated the understanding that while evacuation is standard in disasters, evacuation actions themselves can lead to increased damage, urging comprehensive judgment as designated evacuation centers may also be located in low-lying areas. The disaster occurring late at night also proved unfortunate. Walking through flooded areas in the dark carries considerable risk. The prefecture took measures such as emergency opening of the prefectural office, so the danger of walking through flooded areas should be recognized anew.

Emergency Food Supplies
I see, that's true. Even normally, if the food isn't good, my mood drops, and since I tend to get sick easily when my environment changes, this is a matter of life and death for me. I guess I'll start by looking for tasty emergency food supplies.

Thoughts on Stockpiling for Disasters
Today, starting with emergency food, I'd like to think about how we should approach stockpiling for disaster situations. When we think of emergency food, we tend to imagine items that last for several years. Isn't this because we perceive emergency food as 'a meal to prevent starvation'? However, there's a surprising pitfall. In modern domestic disasters, except for areas prone to isolation, relief supplies from public institutions or volunteers usually arrive within a few days, and distribution networks begin to recover. This means that the real problem isn't 'hunger,' but rather the 'decrease in quality of life' and 'stress' caused by the failure of essential infrastructure (water, electricity, toilets). Considering this, the role of personal stockpiles shifts from 'food to endure' to 'tools to maintain quality of life and mental well-being' for the few days until support arrives. If you reframe it this way, you might realize the importance of stocking up on more familiar foods that are easy to prepare or store, rather than buying emergency food that will sit for years. Doesn't it also make everyday convenience items and time-saving gadgets seem like valuable disaster preparedness goods? I hope that this perspective will serve as an opportunity to think about disaster preparedness in your daily life.

Latest Weather Overview and Future Forecast Outlook
A slight downward revision from yesterday's forecast; the sun and lingering heat that were predicted to intensify on Sunday and Monday will see the sunny marks disappear from the all-day weather forecast. Although temperatures were forecast to reach 30 degrees Celsius on Monday, the weather overview indicates dominant cloud cover, requiring laundry to be hung out by the morning. For temperatures, areas north of Kanto-Koshinetsu will generally see summer-like days as the maximum, and with a strong chance of rain, it will fall below that threshold. As the signs of autumn become more pronounced, redecorating, reinforcing bedding, and strengthening cold-weather preparations are recommended. For western Japan, while daytime high temperatures are expected to exceed midsummer levels, only Okinawa will experience tropical nights for the minimum temperature, so caution is advised regarding the number of blankets. There are no particular notes regarding rain, but the Tokai and Kanto regions should be wary today and tomorrow. Heavy rain is expected to move in from the autumn rain front associated with a southern low-pressure system, with the peak expected to pass by Friday afternoon. Subsequently, signs of intermittent cloud cover dominance are visible, so areas in Nagoya, Chiba, and within the Tokyo metropolitan area that are prone to flooding should stay updated on weather information. It is expected that the season will fully transition to autumn, and with some forecasts predicting severe weather in the short term, it would be advisable to expedite redecorating and rechecking your wardrobe.

Weekend Weather and Temperature Trends
The autumn rain front that brought record-breaking downpours continues to linger over the Pacific coast from southern Kyushu to southern Kanto, resulting in predominantly cloudy weather until Saturday. However, unlike the recent heavy rains in Chiba and Nagoya, the influence of typhoons is diminishing, so the likelihood of significant rainfall is estimated to be low. Regarding temperature trends, areas under cloudy skies will experience cooler temperatures due to the influence of cold air, staying below midsummer heat levels (30°C+), creating an early autumn feel, true to the name 'autumn rain front.' On Sunday, the autumn rain front is expected to temporarily move north, bringing clear skies to southern Honshu. Many areas are predicted to reach midsummer heat levels, indicating lingering summer heat, but days with extreme heat (35°C+) are not currently forecast. Long-term forecasts indicate the autumn rain front will move south again afterward. Midsummer heat levels are expected only on Sunday and Monday; from Tuesday onwards, temperatures are projected to not even reach summer levels (25°C+). Although this year marked the first year of extreme heatwaves, the heat is expected to subside at least by next week. With no severe weather forecast and midsummer heat being the maximum temperature, it seems like an opportunity to work on cleanup in the disaster-stricken areas. It's a good weekend for tourism, and with reduced heatstroke warnings, the trend is towards a mild climate.

Emergency Backpack and Stockpile
I tend to buy things that have a really long shelf life, but even if they're supposedly tasty, food that lasts for years isn't that great... You either throw it out when it expires, or you don't even realize it has expired. So, I check and replace items every six months. Since the contents only need to last for six months, I just fill it with regular tea, water, canned goods, retort pouches, balanced nutrition bars, and snacks that are readily available. This way, even if they get replaced at the next check, I can still enjoy them while they're still good! Checking every six months also means I can stock up on body wipes for summer and hand warmers for winter, making it practical and lightweight. It's a good way to stay conscious about preparedness!
