For a free-to-play player trying to advance character ascension, would it be better to go for shop exchanges (using character ascension items, not gacha currency) or just brute-forcing with regular gacha pulls? I've got a stable number of characters now, so I want to start ascending someone.

Why can you go from the Nightmare Settlement to the Sonora battle via the Sola Guide, but not from the Afterimage Settlement ( ᐕ)?
