First meeting with my boyfriend's grandmother...
I joined the forum and was wondering what to post for my first entry... but then I had a perfect topic to write about, so here I am! ðŠ Next Monday, I'm planning to go to a slightly fancy all-you-can-eat place with my boyfriend (we've been together for over 3 years), his sister (we've hung out and traveled together a few times), and his grandmother (this will be our first meeting). So, a gift is pretty important, right?! My boyfriend says his grandmother is quite energetic and lively, and that we'll get along well, but I don't really talk to people of that generation often, so I'm worried I won't be able to connect with her... My own grandparents were definitely from an older generation than his grandmother, so I'm also scared of a generation gap...! So, I'd be really happy if I could get some advice ãŸ(ã»Ïã»`;)ïŸ

If it's an important first meeting, a gift is a must. It's safe and sure to research your boyfriend's preferences and choose individually wrapped sweets that last. Just act politely and you'll be fine, so be confident!

I think bringing a gift is never a bad idea. However, there are a few things to keep in mind. If it's your first time meeting them, you won't know their preferences, so consumables are recommended. Things like food or small items that get used up. For food, it's a good idea to ask your boyfriend beforehand if they have any allergies. Western pastries and baked goods are usually a safe bet and well-received. Also, size matters. If you're meeting at your boyfriend's place and heading over together, it's not a big deal, but if you're meeting at the location and parting ways there, a large gift can be a bit cumbersome. I think a size that can fit into a tote bag is appropriate. Based on these points, I recommend baked goods like cookies.
