Pests that ruin my garden, I won't forgive you!
Greetings, ladies... ð Something sad happened today... ð I enjoy gardening as a hobby in my mansion's garden. 𥰠I'm even growing strawberries! ð I planted 3 strawberry plants in a 65cm planter, with chives, my companion plants âš, in between! ð However... I'm ashamed to admit I'm a beginner gardener... I have no idea how to plant them properly! ð The internet says 3 plants fit in a 65cm planter, but some posts say it's too cramped with anything more than 2... I tried planting and growing 3, and... it was indeed a bit tight. So, I replanted with 2 plants! âš (I also moderately trimmed the roots 𥰠It was just before the rainy season â) But... perhaps that was the mistake... This morning, when I looked at the strawberry planter, both the strawberries and chives were wilted... (Or was it yesterday?) I thought it was because of the rain... but then I wondered, 'What if!?' and gave it a gentle pull, and it came out easily! And underneath... believe it or not... there were Japanese beetle grubs!!!! ð± To be continued below âð¹

AuthorApparently, adult June beetles can be seen from June to July. And the soil conditions for laying eggs are that it's fluffy, rich in organic matter, and has moderate moisture. I repotted them before the rainy season... and the roots were sparse, and the soil was fluffy... I also mixed in some leaf mold... It was entirely my mistake... ð± Actually, I also repotted some leftover chives into a 6-inch planter due to repotting convenience... One of them was attacked by June beetles... (There were about 30 of them in about 2 liters of soil! ð¡) ...Well, actually, I was planning to replace them with new seedlings anyway, so I was going to get rid of them eventually... but that's not the point! ðð¥ Anyway, I need to be careful about the timing of repotting plants... Be especially careful when repotting plants that go into dormancy during the hot summer! (It's dangerous for them to face summer with sparse roots! â¡) I'm sure none of you ladies reading this are as foolish as I am... but please be careful...

It's a shame after all the effort you put into planting. I've helped with strawberries before, and they did spray insecticide in the field before planting. If you're growing in a heated greenhouse, you'd typically plant seedlings around now to aim for a Christmas season harvest ð If the runners (the things that stretch out with a bud at the end) are alive, you can get new plants from them, so there's a chance if you can maintain the temperature ð Pests, diseases, and garden management are tough stuff! ð

Oh my~. That's truly a shame~. Once strawberries start bearing fruit... and turning red, it's a constant battle against all sorts of pests and birds!!! Still, a swarm of moles is something to scream about!!!
