Allergies (Cats are cute.)

… I'm sure there are people reading this who can relate… People who developed allergies after starting to own a cat… That's exactly my type. I thought I was fine because I'd been around cats pretty often before I got one… But now… a little nibble? Even just a slight nip from their teeth makes me itchy and swollen… and eventually, places that weren't even bitten start itching too…😅 It can't be helped. No one's fault. Humans just have to take medicine. Conclusion: Cats are cute. ps: What about topical creams…? Right now, I only have oral medication and have to resort to cold compresses when it gets itchy…💦

Getting sick because of your cat? You never learn, do you? But a cat that's loved that much might be happy in a way, nya. Relying on medicine is fine, but don't push yourself too hard, nya.

I kind of understand! Cats are cute, but I also sneeze when I'm at a house with cats, so I probably have allergies lol It would be nice if it improved 💦

A TV show from a few years ago mentioned that people with cat allergies might not have a reaction if the cat's skin is clean. I forget the details, but apparently, the cat's skin is the cause of the allergy? But I wonder if washing the cat is okay?

My childhood asthma (which usually gets better as you become an adult) worsened around the age of 20 when I started keeping a cat, and I was hospitalized for asthma every year after that. After my beloved cat passed away and I moved, I'm still on medication, but I haven't had any major attacks... It took me decades to realize that it was asthma triggered by a cat allergy. Even if I could go back to that time, I would still get a cat. For both our sakes, please be careful to take your allergy medication and keep up with cleaning (allergies are often triggered by dander)! If you get bitten, I think washing it off immediately with soap or something can prevent a lot.

I have allergies too 😭 (Cats are cute, right? My cat runs away when I sneeze 😱💦 It's sad...). Apparently, cat saliva is the cause of allergies. Since they lick their fur when grooming, even shed fur can cause allergic reactions in humans. I'm actually quite worried about being gently bitten 💦. Like others commented, I thought washing the bitten area might be quite effective! Please be careful not to accidentally get anaphylactic shock 💦. They say that bathing your cat and keeping it clean can reduce allergies, but bathing them too often can be harsh on their skin, and many cats hate baths, so it's quite difficult 😖💦. I pray that Naka Totoro can live comfortably with their beloved cat for a long, long time 🙏🏻💗

It's not that you can't have cats because of your allergies, but that the cat allergy itself can't be cured? It's too sad to not be able to play with cute kitties 😢

I've had cough asthma for 20 years. Depending on your cat's personality, if they like baths, give them a bath once a week. If they don't, wipe their body with a sheet once a week. Choose wipes that are as gentle as possible for your cat. Avoid using wipes around their eyes and nose/ears; use a damp, wrung-out cloth gently. Bathe them once a month. If it doesn't burden them, setting up an air purifier will make things even more comfortable. Ideally, it's best to get them used to it from a young kitten who dislikes grooming... Regarding ointments, be careful as some contain ingredients or scents that can be burdensome for cats. I personally use a body lotion that's safe even for babies for maintenance. As long as you avoid scents your cat dislikes, it's generally okay. If your cat isn't around when you apply it, it should be fine. Please enjoy your daily life without getting stressed. The worst thing is daily stress, so smile!

I have cat allergies too. The allergen is protein, so it comes from saliva as well as dander. When it gets severe, I break out just by touching a cat, or even if there's dander on shed fur in the room. So, it's difficult to completely prevent it if you live with a cat. If it's just a skin symptom, topical medication might help, but what if the cat licks it? Also, when it gets worse, you might develop asthma. I've been hospitalized multiple times. It might be best to minimize contact with your cat as much as possible by wearing a mask and gloves. It's sad, but your own health is important too.

It seems that cat allergies can sometimes resolve after several years if other allergies (like pollen) become stronger…! Although, I don't think it would resolve immediately… It might be different if you can live separately from the cat~~ It would be nice if you could coexist and live together…😔

I don't have cat allergies, but I do have atopic dermatitis. Basically, an approach starting with oral medication and topical treatment is recommended. Think of itching and skin irritation like a fire, and it'll be easier to understand🚒 Oral medication is about creating an environment where fires are less likely to start, and topical treatment is like using a fire extinguisher to put out fires that have already started🧯🔥 As a side note, if you stop the topical medication thinking you're cured, the smoldering fire will reignite, so it's important to keep applying it until the fire is completely extinguished👍
