Windmill Festival
Eiichi Ikegami's "Windmill Festival" This was a book I read in paperback when I was a student, and it was incredibly fun. The image is of the e-book version. His debut work, "Bagarujima Nupanasu: My Island's Story," is also interesting and recommended, but I'm introducing this one this time. What is the Windmill Festival? I learned about it in this book, but it seems to be a festival celebrating longevity in Okinawa. It's a traditional event that grandly celebrates the age of 97 (by traditional counting), and this book is a fantasy-comedy centered around the Windmill Festival. It was so funny that I was laughing uncontrollably in class and someone asked, "Is it funny?" This novel vividly conveys the charm of Okinawa's unique culture, dialect, religious views, relaxed prefectural character, and views on love, without holding back.
