Originally a School Refuser (Currently in Social Rehabilitation Training)

Due to a double whammy of my mild developmental (learning) disability and codependency & a dysfunctional family rife with domestic violence, my mental health deteriorated, and I was a shut-in from 2nd grade until I was 18. Now I'm attending a workplace for social rehabilitation training. There are various types of developmental disabilities... For me, it's mainly struggling to keep up with studies and getting exhausted from trying too hard to fit in with others (over-adaptation). Even when I got home exhausted, I had to entertain my abused siblings who were always getting picked on, or else they'd take it out on me (yelling, threatening me with a knife). I didn't even have my own room back then, so I had no place to rest and my spirit was broken. Recently, my home environment has become more stable, so I've decided to become independent and move out. I'm worried if anyone will hire me with only a middle school education, no qualifications, and a genetic chronic illness, but I plan to take it slow and steady, at my own pace. Even if people call me bottom-tier, it's my life. I have to live my own life without comparing it to others'. Well, if I'm alive, things will probably work out somehow.

You've been through such a harsh environment. I truly admire your courage to stand up on your own. Don't rush, let's take it step by step at your own pace.

The words 'you have to live your own life without comparing it to others' are really important. I believe your past experiences aren't wasted, and I hope things gradually move in a better direction from here on out.

I think the poster, who has accepted their tragic past and is positively striving forward, is amazing. It's not something everyone can do. I also grew up in a difficult family environment, and I truly believe that those who take action are the ones who achieve happiness. I'm sure you'll be rewarded. I'm cheering for you!

I'm a parent whose two children were truant. My child also couldn't go to school, but they're working and doing their best in society in their own way. If you look up, there's no end, but if you keep trying, people around you will help. Let's live life with joy.

It's amazing you can do rehabilitation training in that kind of environment. But I hope you don't overdo it and take breaks appropriately. Even if you feel more at ease in society, don't push yourself by telling yourself 'it's better than the past' or choose not to rest. If it's tough, make sure to rest properly. If you want to talk about anything, feel free to vent here anytime.

You are so kind, Master... To face forward and be considerate of others despite such a harsh family environment is a talent in itself. At least, I could never do that...

I know it's not really my place to say, but you've really come a long way! Maybe you didn't have a choice, but I think it's amazing how you've persevered. I'm praying that your future life heads in a better direction, even just a little!
