Koya no Sei
Nice to meet you all. I found this wonderful bulletin board and decided to join. Koya no Sei / Izumi Kyoka I believe Izumi Kyoka's masterpiece, "Koya no Sei," remains a timeless classic even after more than 120 years. The story begins with a monk from Mount Koya recounting his experiences while crossing the treacherous mountains of Hida. It's an absolute must-read for anyone who enjoys ghost stories or dark fantasy. Many might feel that "old literature sounds difficult," but personally, I think the content is a dark fantasy that resonates with modern light novels and horror fiction.

Nice to meet you! I'm surprised such an old masterpiece is considered a pioneer of dark fantasy. The illustrations with their fantastical atmosphere are also wonderful, and it makes me really want to read it!

There it is!!! When I first read it, I remember closing the book because I literally felt like leeches were falling from above during the leech scene. It was a truly disgusting reading experience... (in a good way!)
