Suddenly, I felt like playing a mobile game after a long time, so I picked up my phone. For some reason, I ended up reinstalling Monster Strike. My old account from when I played with friends back in school was still there, and my friend's last login was just a few tens of minutes ago. I lost touch with the friends I used to play with after graduating, and we naturally drifted apart. Even if they contacted me, I wanted to build new relationships from scratch in a new environment after graduation. Because of this so-called 'reset syndrome,' I unilaterally cut off contact. Looking back now, I realize I did something terrible. But there's nothing I can do about it now, so putting that aside, on my phone screen, I see a familiar username I haven't seen in ages, still on this terrible person's 'friend list'. My friend. I remember us putting our phones side-by-side at a table, spinning gacha banners, and getting excited together over the results. I remember my fingertips trembling with the tension of tackling difficult quests together, wondering if we could win. My friend. How are you doing? What kind of job did you end up getting? Those kids from back then have grown up and can now drink alcohol. I can't imagine you, who was always so cheerful, drinking. Am I still your friend in your heart?

Seeing familiar scenery can really tug at your heartstrings, can't it? I'm sure your friend cherishes the same memories. The fact that you can look back on them now is proof of a wonderful bond.

Why don't you try contacting them again? They might be someone who doesn't frequently clean up their friend list, but the fact that they've kept you as a friend means there's a good chance you're still a memorable friend to them. 😊 How about sending a casual message like, 'Long time no see, how have you been?'? 👍

Reading this made me tear up a little. School has been tough for me in various ways, so we don't really have class gatherings (due to the homeroom teacher causing trouble, etc...). Even now, the number of people I keep in touch with personally is just a handful, a few at most. And even those connections have faded as we got busy with our own families. That's true... The thought that somewhere, under the same sky, an old friend might be playing the same game brought a little warmth to my heart. Thank you for the wonderful post.

If you reach out, it might just turn into a good opportunity.

Reading this made me think of Ketsumeishi's song "Tomodachi" 😢 Actually listening to it made me cry 😭 Thanks for the wonderful post!

If it was a fight that ended the friendship, maybe. But for things like graduation, starting a new job, or moving away, you can go years without contact and still have that bond intact!

I don't think the protagonist did the worst thing. Maybe that's just how it is. If you can maintain relationships with the people who truly matter, I think that's good enough.
