Whyyyyyy...!
Something really shocking happened to me just now... I went to the supermarket to buy groceries because I was running low on miso, and then... There was no red miso. I'm from the Tokai region, so when I think of miso, I think of red miso, but where I live now, white (or mixed?) miso is the mainstream, and honestly, it's just not the same. Even if the demand is low, wouldn't it be nice if they stocked at least one 1kg pack of red miso? They used to have it, didn't they?! Ah, my quest to find red miso begins again... For a while, 'Akamisoooo' is likely to be my battle cry...

I totally get that feeling of loss when you can't get the taste of home. I've felt the same way somewhere else before. I hope your journey to find red miso is successful.

Maple-san, you must be tired 💦 Your post made me miss the flavors of home 🥹 Where I am now, the taste of miso and dashi is different from my hometown, so sometimes I sigh when I remember the taste of home 😮💨 I wondered if they might sell it at places like co-ops, but it must be tough to sign up just for miso…. I pray you can find it somewhere nearby 🙏

White miso is delicious too, but I feel like I need to make the broth properly (delicate image), so I've only ever had it when eating out. My household uses a mix of red miso and (koji) miso, so if I were to move to a different region, I'd probably be on the hunt for red miso too... I'll pray you find some red miso! ✨

Akamiso... what a cute little cry! 🫣💖 It's true, it feels lonely without local specialties... I totally get it! I, on the other hand, grew up with shiromiso, so when I lived in Nagoya for a while, I was crying out "Shiromiso!" because of the akamiso and the sweet, rich miso? 😭
