The Path to Fame

Let me introduce a slightly more formal work. A novel by Ryotaro Shiba. The protagonist is the beautiful woman [Chiyo], who married Yamauchi Iiemon Kazutoyo during the Sengoku period. Kazutoyo, who was manipulated by Chiyo, who displayed her "inner support" skills, found himself climbing the ranks without even realizing it. Serving under Oda Nobunaga, Toyotomi Hideyoshi, and Tokugawa Ieyasu, he eventually rose to become the lord of Kochi Castle, granted 200,000 koku in Tosa. His skill in weaving various legends into what seems like fact is remarkable! Each episode vividly comes to mind, and I remember being shocked as a woman by the sheer intensity of her embodying the ideal wife and wise mother. I believe the lingering impression after reading this work might differ between male and female readers. If Chiyo were born in the modern era, she would surely have been the lord of her own domain.

Chiyo's wisdom and supportive efforts, along with her insight for building peace, deeply resonated with me. I have much to learn from her strength in navigating a world of conflict.

As I was reading, an episode about the Clintons came to mind. Apparently, when they stopped at a gas station, the owner turned out to be Hillary's ex-boyfriend. On the way home, the husband said, "You're lucky you married me. If you had married him, you'd be the owner of a small-town gas station right now." To which the wife replied, "What are you talking about? If I had married him, he would be the President of the United States right now?" It really makes you think about the power of a supportive spouse. I read it thinking that with an excellent supporter, one can definitely climb higher...!

I watched the historical drama. I remember it because Yukie Nakama was the lead. I was a huge fan of hers back then and watched most of the dramas she appeared in. I didn't know it was based on a novel by Ryotaro Shiba. Thanks for letting me know!
