9/29 Maneki-neko Day
Maneki-neko Day Derived from the Japanese wordplay "Ku(9)ru(2) Fuku(9)" (meaning "come" and "luck"). Cats were historically considered good luck charms for sericulture because they eat mice that prey on silkworms and crops. However, after sericulture declined, they became symbols of business prosperity. Maneki-neko with the "right paw" raised are said to beckon money and good fortune, while those with the "left paw" raised are said to beckon customers and people.
