About Foods I Dislike

Greetings, everyone. It's rather sudden, but I dislike bitter or spicy raw vegetables, and mushy foods, especially things like okayu (rice porridge), raw eggs, and natto. Just thinking about it makes me feel like I'm missing out. There are people who enjoy them, saying they're delicious, yet I can't eat them pleasurably. It's definitely a loss! (A stingy mindset, perhaps?) So, just like when we discussed natto before, I tried my best with my family during my childhood. And I have a history of being utterly defeated. Honestly. I had resigned myself, thinking, 'If it's not raw, I can eat most bitter vegetables, so isn't that good enough?' And then. Recent bell peppers and onions are amazing! Not too bitter, not too spicy! Apparently, according to a TV program's report, the number of children who answer that they dislike bell peppers and onions has significantly decreased compared to decades ago. Even though my dear mother struggled so much just to get me to eat leafy greens raw… I couldn't eat bell peppers or celery unless they were cooked… It took me quite a while to realize that bell peppers are less bitter when cut in half rather than finely chopped… Kids these days are so lucky…!

It's understandable that many people dislike strong-flavored foods. For those who love them, that's exactly what makes them irresistible though⋯🤭 I'm genuinely thankful that tireless varietal improvements have led to more palatable vegetables. Personally though, I wish burdock root tasted even more like dirt⋯

Dear Miyabe Yoko, how do you do? 🌹 Indeed, onions, bell peppers, and tomatoes have become much easier to eat compared to the past~! My beloved son has always loved bell peppers, to the point where he'll munch on fresh ones raw 😅 Conversely, I can't stand raw onions... that pungent flavor lingers on my tongue all day, and sometimes even the next day...!! This is something that even modern onions haven't managed to overcome, so I wish the farmers could put in a little more effort~!!

Miyabe Komeko-sama, greetings 🌹 It's true, I do feel like there are fewer children who dislike bell peppers compared to before 🫢 Modern cuisine often has strong flavors, perhaps that's also an influence? 🤔

Greetings! Fortunately(?), I didn't have any picky eating habits, so I ate my vegetables heartily... but liver was just too much for me... However, some modern liver preparations have less of an odor, and I've been able to eat them recently. Progress every day...!

Greetings 🌹 It might be true that it's become less quirky compared to the past! I honestly thought I had become refined enough to be eaten like a lady... How embarrassing. Still, I can't stand celery and perilla leaves even now...

I recall hearing something similar~✨️ It's not that things like bell peppers become easier to eat as you get older because your taste buds change, but rather that advancements in breeding have physically reduced their bitterness!?🌹 Even non-branded produce continues to evolve even now! We should be thankful to the farmers!!
