Isn't this 'normal'?
So today, after swim practice, I told my coach, 'I'm going to skip practice the day after tomorrow because we're having a class get-together after the sports festival.' Then the coach said, 'Wow, even middle schoolers talk about fancy stuff like get-togethers.' That made me wonder if having get-togethers as a middle schooler isn't actually that common? I've been calling them get-togethers since I was in 7th grade, but what do you all think about this?

It's normal for even middle schoolers to call it a 'get-together' or 'after-party.' It's a fun time after working hard, so you don't need to worry about it sounding too fancy. Just say it confidently next time.

I don't know if the word 'uchiage' (party) sounds sophisticated... I actually thought it sounded like 'getting off work,' which isn't very cute... I thought a word like 'otsukaresama-kai' (thank you for your hard work party) would sound cuter and be better. Maybe I just felt the act of having a party itself was mature?

It feels a bit weird for a middle schooler to have a send-off party, doesn't it?
