People Around Here
It's a collection of 26 short stories, like a collection of short shorts, yet it also has the feel of a full-length novel with loose connections between each story. As the title "People Around Here" suggests, the story revolves around the people living in this town? region? The characters are all peculiar, being seriously unserious and eerily peaceful. The town itself also has a strange, dreamlike atmosphere where common sense seems skewed and time and space feel warped, yet it all feels natural, which is part of its charm. In dreams, logic and facts break down, but somehow you find yourself accepting them. Reading this book gives you that kind of feeling. It's a novel that, despite its short length, takes you to a dense and mysterious world.

There's the president, an elementary school, a community center, an underground shelter, and even NHK. 'Snack Ai,' which is open from 7:30 AM to 11 PM but no one in town ever visits, The curse of the six-unit housing complex where only six-person families live, A grade-schooler who desperately wanted to become a bronze statue. So rich and yet so short (⌯'ᵕ'⌯)

I feel like reading Hiromi Kawakami again after a long time. Lately, I've been picking up books less often based on the author. I also pay attention to the book cover and title. In the past, I used to choose books by my favorite authors. I quite liked 'The Adventures of Nishino Yukihiko'. I recommend it.
