Nanso Satomi Hakkenden
It goes without saying that this is an immensely popular novel from the Edo period. It features many scenes that can be considered the origin of modern manga and anime. A cursed clan, a demoness who cast the curse, young people bound by destiny in a past life, a crystal ball with letters appearing on it, meaningful birthmarks appearing somewhere on their bodies, the battle between encroaching evil and justice... It has all the elements that would make it a huge hit even today! Truly a masterpiece that took 28 years to complete. There are many modern translations available, so please check out the manga, novels, and children's books. You're sure to find a writing style you like. I loved it so much that I read dozens of different modern translations, and I found the series by Hama Takaya, pictured here, to be easy to understand and enjoyable. The annotations and character introductions with illustrations were also greatly appreciated...! My favorite is the love story between Shino and Hamaji, but what are your favorite scenes?

Nanso Satomi Hakkenden, huh? That's a grand tale. Shino and Hamaji's love story is so heartbreaking, I love it too. Comparing dozens of versions, I'm truly impressed by your passion, Napon!â©

Nansou Satomi Hakkenden! I devoured that story in middle school!! I'm also a fan of Hamataka-ya's Nansou Satomi Hakkenden! I'm so happy to meet someone similar! Huh? A favorite character from a love story... ...Y-Yatsufusa and Fusehime... (muttering) Confession time: Nansou Satomi Hakkenden broke my preferences... lol.

Everyone's amazing~ I gave up because there was too much to read. I think I vaguely remember seeing it done as a puppet show...

So nostalgic!!! I also found Hamatakaya-san's writing easier to read. The Hakkenden I borrowed from the school library had difficult phrasing, and I remember realizing 'Aha!ð¡' thanks to Hamatakaya-san's version ( ¯ê³Â¯ )

I read this a ton when I was in elementary school ðâš It's been a while so I only vaguely remember it, maybe I should borrow it from the library again ð€ Oh, by the way, I like Fusehime and Yatsufusa. Even as a kid, I was really into tragic love stories for a while because of it ð

Instead, I'll recommend Black Butler and others.
