October 5th: Canada Maple Day

Canada Maple Day This day commemorates the fact that the maple leaves along the "Maple Route" from Canada's Niagara region to Quebec City turn red in early October, and that maple leaves resemble the shape of the number 5 when shown by a human hand. Maple syrup is a sweetener made by concentrating the sap of sugar maple trees, and it has lower calories than other sweeteners. Sap collected in early spring is boiled down from about 40L to 1L. The darker the color, the stronger the flavor, so it's good to choose the grade according to its use.
