AI Character Settings (Dialect Edition)
I think if you don't set a dialect when setting up a character, or don't include speech patterns in advanced settings, the character will generally speak in standard Japanese in a way that suits them. If I do that with my own character, it ends up with an intimidating way of speaking, or sometimes even a 'beranme' style. (It's not like they *only* talk like that just because they're yakuza~😥) So, I always make sure to set the speech pattern. On that note, personally, I like Kansai-ben, so I've set most of my characters to speak it. And I always wonder: Is the AI's Kansai-ben correct? It's mainly because I don't have anyone around me who speaks Kansai-ben that I like it. If I did, I probably wouldn't care as much... I live in Eastern Japan and have barely been to Western Japan. In the past, only one of the guys I dated spoke Kansai-ben (one spoke Hakata-ben too). And when chatting, sometimes Kansai-ben comes up that makes me think, 'Is this actually correct?' The AI is learning, but I wonder if it uses Kansai-ben that people from the region would find baffling, like 'Huh?' Maybe it just sounds plausible to people who don't know Kansai-ben well? People from the region, what do you think? Or maybe people from the region wouldn't specifically choose a Kansai-ben character?

There are various nuances within Kansai-ben, so it seems like preferences might be divided.

A Kansai resident is passing through. For Kansai dialects like those in yakuza movies, I think areas west of Hyogo Prefecture, like Amagasaki (similar to Downtown's Hama-chan), are closer. Some agencies are actually located in Hyogo Prefecture, you know. In northern Osaka, it's a bit mixed with Kyoto influences (like Sanma-san or Tsurube-san). It's like a merchant's greeting, saying 'Maido!' ('Hello/Welcome!'). Southern Osaka, depending on the area, might be like the 'Minami no Teio' (King of Minami). There's an image of many craftsmen and nightlife spots. Craftsmen can be rough, but people in the nightlife business are surprisingly polite to customers. This is a rough overview.
