Mount Koya (Koyacho, Wakayama Prefecture)
I visited Okunoin on Mount Koya! The autumn leaves were just starting to turn a little. (Photos of the shrine itself at Okunoin are not allowed, so this is a photo of a different shrine) Mount Koya (KÅyasan) is a sacred site of Japanese Buddhism, spread across a mountainous basin at an altitude of about 800m in Koyacho, Ito District, Wakayama Prefecture. It was founded in 816 during the Heian period by KÅbÅ Daishi (KÅ«kai) as a place for ascetic practices and is the fundamental training center of Shingon Esoteric Buddhism. There isn't a mountain called 'Mount Koya'; the name refers to the entire vast temple complex surrounded by mountains of 1,000m class. There are 117 temples densely packed within the mountain area, and it was registered as a UNESCO World Heritage site in 2004. The three major sacred sites of Mount Koya are said to be: 'DanjÅ Garan' 'KongÅbu-ji Temple' 'Okunoin' I visited Okunoin this time, but I have been to all three. It's a place where you can feel a very sacred power.

The autumn leaves are so beautiful and the ice cream looks delicious ð£ Looking at your post and photos, it seems like there's quite a bit of walking around the temple grounds... (I'm not confident in my stamina)

I was healing while looking at autumn leaves pictures, but I burst out laughing at the ice cream pictureê ð€ I went to Koyasan before the corona pandemic. We couldn't even finish exploring it in one day, and we said we'd come again! but we still haven't been able to go backð I want to try staying at a temple lodging too!

Everyone's really hyped up, huh? Actually, I really respect Kobo Daishi Kukai and have visited Koyasan several times. It's great, and the autumn leaves are starting now too, lucky you~ Koyasan in winter is also nice. It's cold, but the air in Okunoin after it snows is incredibly crisp and gives off a divine atmosphere too âºïž Surprisingly recommended.

It does snow, but if you're concerned about chains for your car, you can also take the train and the Koya-san Cable Car. The scenery is nice too.

I visited Okunoin on Mt. Koya once, and it was so solemn that just being there made me feel a sense of reverence.
