If you have plenty of diamonds and materials for leveling up, buy another character. If you only have the Knight right now, I recommend buying an Impulse Blade for the Knight, saving up a bit, and then buying another character once you have enough materials. For other characters, I recommend Soul Eater.

For the early game, definitely use Impulse to learn boss patterns. You can play other characters, but it's not easy (speaking from experience). Oh, and they're saying Impulse will be nerfed, so hurry up and enjoy it while it lasts! Good luck!
