I have a question about fractures!

All my acquaintances only have daughters, so they don't know anything about fractures, not even the letter 'G' (which sounds like 'fracture' in Korean) ㅠ My first child is so rambunctious, I never know where they'll dart off to, and then it happened. I told them not to run, but they ran again, slipped, and their leg bent backward, resulting in an ankle fracture ㅠ Because of this, the whole family had to cancel their vacation ㅠ This happened on the first day of our vacation at a large kids' cafe ㅠ It's the first time this has happened to us, so we were very shocked and flustered ㅠ We managed to get a cast on them, and now they're inseparable from the bed, eating and pooping well lol, but I wanted to ask if anyone has a child who has injured their leg before. Can they walk right after the cast is removed? The doctor says yes, but I don't think so.... My child has to keep their injured leg up until the cast is removed, so I don't understand how they can just start walking without any practice lol Has anyone experienced this before?

Oh my goodness, your child got hurt and you had to cancel your vacation? That must have been so upsetting and shocking. I heard that after the cast is removed, it's really important to go through a rehabilitation process to gently loosen the stiff joints, rather than walking right away. I'll be earnestly praying that your lively daughter, whom you mentioned last time, recovers quickly and can run around freely again.

I recently had surgery to have pins put in for a broken ankle. When I was in the hospital, I saw people who had casts for fractures, and they struggled for a long time even after taking the cast off. Kids might recover faster, but I don't know if it's that different. It'll probably be hard to walk right away even after the cast is off... especially for an ankle. Right now, the cast provides support, but they said you have to be even more careful without it because there's no support. Oh dear.. I hope you get better soon..

In my friend's case (she's my girlfriend, and she said one ligament was torn and two were stretched to the point of almost tearing.. so my situation is a bit different..), she had a full cast for about three months and then wore a half-cast for another three months. She said it was so stuffy that she took it off, but then her ankle wasn't stable at all and kept twisting, causing it to swell up badly again. So she decided to wear the half-cast so she could at least go out. They say ligaments take longer to heal than bones.. but that friend was running, tumbling, and playing on the playground with the cast on during the latter half of her full cast period 🥲 The moms watching were just anxious.. haha. Don't worry too much, and after some time has passed, check back with the hospital. If you're a member of any other local mom communities online, posting there might also be very helpful!
