Buying hero cards with gold in the shop is a one-time thing in this game.

Early on, I unknowingly bought an epic card for about 1,000 won, and it was only useful once to quickly reach 1500 combat power. Getting gold from the Celestial Rift event was a big help. If you're playing slowly, you can buy them from the shop, but you'll end up treasuring gold later on.
