The Walls of Troy, the Walls from the Trojan Horse

The walls of Troy, located on Hisarlik Hill in Turkey and serving as a backdrop in the recently released film 'Odyssey,' lean outwards. This is not due to the passage of time but how they were constructed from the start. Troy sits atop a major fault line crossing Anatolia, resulting in nine layers of cities built upon collapsed predecessors on this hill. The foundation of Troy's walls extends about 1 meter underground before stopping, without reaching bedrock or solid earth below. Excavators interpret this as a deliberately left layer of soil. The outer face is inclined at 70 degrees, with slight offsets every 10 meters, creating a jagged pattern. The purpose of these offsets is still debated. Around 1300 BCE, the city was destroyed by an earthquake, yet these walls endured, with approximately 330 meters out of 550 meters still standing today.
