[Review] Gannibal
200,000 years since the dawn of human history. Cannibalism was once a culture. Religious rituals, superstitious remedies, personal desires. Cannibalism was practiced for various reasons across the globe. In Japan, it was only clearly prohibited after the Meiji era. However, even now, somewhere in the world, perhaps in some Japanese village... This is a manga centered around cannibalism. The protagonist, police officer Agawa Daigo, is assigned to the mountainous village of Kuge. Believing the words left by his predecessor, Officer Karino Osamu, 'The people of this village eat people,' Daigo becomes suspicious of Kuge village. And after his arrival, a series of incidents begin to occur in Kuge village... I intended to read just the first volume as a preview, but ended up reading the entire series. The story has considerable gripping power. Fueled by its popularity, it has also been adapted into a Japanese drama series on Disney+. If you enjoyed the original manga, you'll likely enjoy the drama as well. I don't recommend it if you dislike gore, but I do recommend it if you enjoy picaresque stories.
