Lesser-Known but Quite Useful Trivia [168]

The Cassowary is a large, flightless bird that inhabits the tropical rainforests of New Guinea and northeastern Australia. It is the second heaviest bird on Earth after the ostrich and is considered the most dangerous bird in the world. This creature has developed red, fleshy wattles on its neck, leading to it being called the 'fire-eating bird' in some East Asian countries. It can grow up to 2 meters tall and possesses 12cm claws, capable of inflicting fatal injuries to humans and animals. Notably, it amplifies low-frequency sounds with the casque-like crest on its head, allowing it to travel at speeds of up to 50 kilometers per hour through the jungle. Its reproductive system is polygynandrous, with males incubating the eggs and raising the chicks. Furthermore, by consuming fallen fruits and then excreting them, cassowaries widely disperse plant seeds, playing a crucial role in preserving the rainforest ecosystem. However, due to ongoing environmental destruction and roadkill incidents, their population size is currently shrinking. As such, the cassowary is a creature with formidable physical abilities and unique ecological value, necessitating continuous attention and systematic conservation efforts.
