This might be wishful thinking, but is it hard to exchange Master Coins?
I'm thinking of trying for it this month... Is it difficult to exchange them regardless of the time of day? I know that right at midnight (00:00) is obviously impossible. Even with Gold, by the time I snap out of it at midnight, the coins are gone..

It's super, super, super difficult. It's impossible in all time zones. You can barely do it if you exchange right when the 0 minute hits.
