Why the AK-47 Rarely Malfunctions
1. Intentionally Loose Internal Construction (Gap Design) • Mikhail Kalashnikov, the designer of the AK-47, intentionally created wide and loose gaps between parts. • Even if sand, mud, or dust enters the gun, the parts collide, crushing the foreign matter or expelling it through the gaps, allowing it to function. 2. Brutally Strong Gas Pressure (Over-gassed) The force of the gas generated when a bullet is fired pushes the internal parts (bolt carrier) backward. The AK-47 is designed to use excessively strong gas pressure (Over-gassed) for this. Even if the interior gets dirty and causes friction, the sheer brute force pushing the parts will overcome the resistance from foreign matter and forcibly cycle the action. 3. Simple Parts and Heavy Weight With fewer parts and an extremely simple structure, there are few points where it can fail. The main operating part, the bolt carrier group, is very large and heavy. This heavy chunk of metal moves using inertia, forcefully pushing through resistance.
