Korean Drama Recommendation: 'Rookie Historian Goo Hae-ryung' *Drama Starring: Shin Se-kyung / Cha Eun-woo Total Episodes: 20 (approx. 60 minutes each) Synopsis: In the early 19th century, within the Joseon Dynasty deeply influenced by Confucianism, the prevailing belief was that 'a woman without talent is virtuous.' However, Goo Hae-ryung, a woman who bravely broke free from societal constraints, passed the state examination with her exceptional talent, becoming one of the first female historians in Joseon history to record events within the palace. Upon entering the palace, she not only had to uphold the principles of fairness and record the truth in a court rife with gender prejudice and power struggles, but she also met Prince Dowon, Lee Gyeom, who was exiled to an island, hiding his royal prince identity, and writing romantic novels under the pen name 'Plum Blossom.' From initial bickering rivals, they eventually stood shoulder-to-shoulder against the challenges of court conspiracies and traditional views. With her wisdom and independent courage, Goo Hae-ryung gradually dismantled societal prejudices against women, not only writing her own history but also embarking on a sweet and romantic love story with Lee Gyeom that transcended status and traditional boundaries.
