In Kaohsiung's Sanmin District, there's a nameless meatball (rouyuan) stall known only to locals. You have to venture into a small alley off Tonghua Street, near the intersection with Rehe 2nd Road, to find it. Operating from a three-wheeled electric scooter with a few small chairs set up under the eaves, it draws a crowd of eager customers every afternoon, all waiting for their delicious steamed meatballs. This place, [Three-Wheeled Van Nameless Rouyuan], has been quietly selling for 40 years. Legend has it that in the early days, it was just a three-wheeled cart with no chairs, and everyone ate standing around the stall. This afternoon, there were indeed so many customers that the chairs weren't quite enough, leaving some people to eat while standing. Each meatball costs 15 NTD and they're quite large! The sauce they make is especially amazing; I poured so much on that the whole bowl looked like a meatball soup. What's unique is the addition of cucumber, which adds a nice crunchy texture.
