16-Year-Old Scammer Revealed as Actress, Deletes Accounts and Flees
Chinese short-drama actress Wu Mengdie (online alias 'Yeger') is facing accusations from multiple netizens for scamming underage players on the web game 'Aobi Island' when she was 16. The victims recognized her from her short dramas, sparking heated discussion. Victim Xiao Zhang claimed that in 2022, he saw a player nicknamed 'MengliXX' in the game's chat area advertising 'rare outfits.' He was led to transfer 13 yuan via QQ, but the other party blocked him immediately after receiving the payment, canceling the transaction. Xiao Liu, in early 2020 during middle school, was led to WeChat, where the scammer sent 'credibility pictures' to gain trust and defrauded him of nearly 300 yuan. Multiple victims stated that the scams were concentrated between 2020 and 2022, with the common method being to lure players off-platform for private transfers, followed by blocking the buyer after receiving payment. After the incident came to light, Wu Mengdie privately messaged some victims, admitting to having 'engaged in improper conduct through the transaction process' on 'Aobi Island' years ago. She posted an apology and offered compensation, stating she had 'regretted it for so many years.' However, she only compensated a few people before clearing her social media accounts and going incommunicado. Some victims reported, 'She compensated one or two people and then ran off again,' and there were even negotiations over the compensation amount. A lawyer pointed out that the case involves multiple people and a significant amount, exceeding the 3,000 yuan threshold for criminal charges, thus constituting fraud. Furthermore, the 5-year statute of limitations is still within effect, calculated from 2022. Currently, Wu Mengdie's multiple social accounts have been cleared. Her affiliated MCN company stated it was a 'personal private matter,' and some video platforms have removed her short drama works. This kind of behavior definitely doesn't mean she realized her mistake, it just means she knows she's finished. Maybe privately she's still complaining that the victims blew a 'small matter' out of proportion 🙄 Many bullies and scammers are just like this 🙄

This kind of shirking responsibility is truly despicable. Someone genuinely remorseful would never choose to flee after things have escalated; this is merely a hypocritical tactic to protect their own interests.
