Squid Trivia

They live once and then collectively perish: Most squid have very short lifespans (typically 1 to 2 years). They are 'semelparous' creatures, meaning they mate and lay eggs only once in their lifetime. After completing their reproductive mission, their bodies rapidly age, leading to mass death shortly thereafter. They 'taste' with their feet: The suckers on a squid's tentacles not only grip but are also packed with highly sensitive chemoreceptors. In other words, if they touch something with their tentacles, they can immediately 'taste' whether it's a tasty shrimp or an inedible rock.
