Xiang Lu Xian Lao Mala Luwei is located in Fengshan, Kaohsiung. The owner carefully selects fresh ingredients and prepares them personally. They use a one-pot braising method, adding ingredients sequentially based on their characteristics, with a braising time of about 2 to 3 hours. They claim to use no artificial flavors or preservatives. Currently, they offer Five-Spice Braised and Mala Braised options. The non-spicy Five-Spice Braised uses a medicinal herb spice pack with over 30 kinds of spices to bring out the original flavor of the ingredients. The Mala flavor comes in Mala Ban (mixed) and Xian Lao (freshly braised), seasoned with a special sauce, offering a sweet, savory, and spicy taste. The Sichuan peppercorn numbing sensation is distinct, spicy but not overpowering, with a flavor profile that starts sweet, then numbing, and finally spicy, making it very addictive! Popular items include tiger skin chicken feet, pork trotters, duck tongues, and duck wings, with tender and chewy meat. For those craving meat, options like bone-in pork ribs or pork 'chrysanthemum' meat are available. Vegetable choices are abundant, with lotus root, potatoes, bok choy hearts, and tofu skin absorbing the braising liquid. There's also Kou Shui Ji (mouth-watering chicken), with hand-shredded tender meat, enhanced with onions, spices, and red oil.
