Flower - Hello Nico

Hello Nico is a Taiwanese indie band that gained attention with their debut album "Familiar Desolation" in 2014. "Flower" is included in this album. When you first hear "Flower," it's easy to mistake it for a song about romantic love. However, the lead singer once mentioned that the song is actually about a close friend who is a woman. They had an argument, but what truly hurt wasn't the fight itself. It was the fact that after the argument, there was still an opportunity to mend their relationship. But at that moment, neither of them made a move. So, time slowly pushed them apart, until they finally realized that the "I'm sorry" they could have said back then had nowhere left to go. That's why I think the most painful part of "Flower" isn't the loss. It's missing the chance to reconcile. Many relationships don't die because of one harsh word, but because after that word is spoken, both people wait for the other to speak first. We thought there would be time tomorrow. We thought it would be okay once we both calmed down. We thought that since our relationship was so good, we wouldn't drift apart. But if some things aren't done in the moment, there truly won't be a "later." No one is the villain, and no one really intended to hurt anyone. It's just that two very important people were a little too stubborn at a very ordinary moment. And then they missed their chance. Only at the very end did we understand— What was truly lost wasn't that argument. It was the version of us that could have made up. We always learn how to stay, only after we've lost.
