Using Your Phone in Sunlight is More Harmful Than in the Dark! Doctor Reveals '4x Blue Light & UV' Double Damage

Many people think using their phone in the dark is the worst for their eyes, but doctors warn that looking directly at a phone screen in sunlight is even more damaging. A female secretary in Kaohsiung who habitually replied to messages under the sun for four to five hours daily, sought medical attention and discovered she had a hole in her right retina and severely decreased vision. Dr. Hong Qi-ting explained that when sunlight directly hits the phone and reflects into the eyes, the combined energy of blue light and ultraviolet rays can be up to 4 times higher, enough to burn the retina. Furthermore, to see the screen clearly, people increase the brightness, causing the blue light levels to soar, effectively subjecting the eyes to double damage. Conversely, using your eyes up close in the dark causes damage from hypoxia. The ciliary muscles continuously contract and spasm, and when the lights are turned off, the pupils dilate, increasing the amount of harmful blue light entering and directly damaging the optic nerve, raising the risk of glaucoma and macular degeneration. To protect your eyes, doctors recommend three actions you can do anytime. First is the 'Blink Exercise 123': Close your eyes for 2 seconds, tightly shut them for 2 seconds, and open them for 2 seconds. This 6-second cycle, done 5 to 10 times daily, promotes tear secretion. Second is 'Eye Movement': Look up, down, left, and right for 5 seconds each, then rotate clockwise and counter-clockwise 5 times each to relax the eye muscles. Third is 'Warm Compress': Apply a warm towel to your eyes for 5 to 10 minutes to improve blood circulation, but ensure the temperature isn't too high to avoid burns. If you must use your phone in the dark, adjust the screen brightness to the lowest setting, matching the low ambient light, and enable 'dark mode.' This is much healthier than trying to combat darkness with strong light. You should also avoid prolonged phone use in direct sunlight and wear blue-light-blocking or sunglasses for an extra layer of protection. Hmm... maybe we should just use our phones less? 🤔

The glare is so bad I can't see anything. Even with an umbrella, the sun is too strong.
