Adding a touch of yuri to the board 😉 "Moon in the Rainy Night" (雨夜の月) is a yuri manga by Kuzuhiro, serialized on Kodansha's "Comic DAYS" since 2021, with 12 volumes published to date. The story follows Itsuki Kaneda, a high school girl learning piano, who coincidentally meets a mysterious long-haired girl before starting high school. After their brief encounter, Itsuki never expected to see her again in her classroom on the first day of school—it was her classmate, Kanon Aikawa. Kanon has a hearing impairment and usually communicates through lip-reading and other methods. Due to past experiences, she tends to keep her distance from those around her. However, Itsuki isn't deterred and becomes interested in Kanon, actively taking steps to get closer to her. The work not only depicts the two girls gradually closing the distance but also uses Kanon's hearing impairment to discuss the difference between "helping" and "understanding," and how the goodwill of those around might not always be what the other person truly wants. The original work's emotional development is a slow-burn yuri, focusing more on how the two characters get to know and understand each other, slowly becoming special presences in each other's lives, rather than starting a romance right away.
