A Strange Person
I had a classmate in middle school who had a rather 'unique' personality (I'll preface this by saying it wasn't a mental illness). However, this personality caused a lot of classmates to be unhappy (though I didn't really care). I heard that after he went to high school, he even went to the dean to complain about being bullied, which apparently made the class atmosphere a bit awkward (this is according to a friend who was in the same class, so I don't know the full situation). Problems from middle school aren't getting resolved even in high school. My middle school homeroom teacher also said: 'Right now, there are people who help you (yeah, that's me), but if you don't change this personality, you'll be a laughingstock in high school.' (I was in a different class :D). However, his family seems to be a single-parent household... his dad passed away when he was in elementary school. But then again, his younger brother doesn't seem to have this issue. All I can say is that the world is full of strange people. Keep your head up.

Sometimes, the minority isn't the one with the problem, but the majority.

I think if he had a few friends, he could get by. It's not about him changing, just finding a way to coexist peacefully with others. He doesn't need to fit in, just be able to live without interfering with each other, peacefully.
