Went to Beitou to see yokai, but the Kappa looked like it was enjoying life more than me
Today I went to Beitou to see the 'Hyakki Yagyō' yokai exhibition. I initially thought it would be a bit spooky, but many of the yokai inside looked surprisingly cute. Especially the Kappa sitting in the bathtub, it had a look that clearly said, 'Don't bother me, I'm taking a bath.' Besides the yokai illustrations, there were also various Japanese yokai-related trinkets, old posters, and folk collections. As I was looking around, I suddenly realized, people in the past actually had richer imaginations than many horror movies today. And the old buildings in Beitou really suit the yokai theme, wooden structures, hot springs, Kappa, Hyakki Yagyō, the whole atmosphere made a strange kind of sense. A kappa bathing must be so healing. It's interesting how humans tend to observe yokai enjoying themselves, only to end up becoming part of the exhibition themselves.
