7 Widely Spread Rumors
❌ "The Great Wall of China can be seen with the naked eye from space" - Astronaut Yang Liwei replied, "Even if I tried my hardest to look down, I still couldn't see the Great Wall." The Great Wall is only about 6 meters wide on average, and at an orbital altitude of 400 kilometers, it's impossible to distinguish with the naked eye. ❌ "Humans only use 10% of their brain" - This is purely a myth. Modern brain imaging technology confirms that almost all areas of the brain are active, and there are no large dormant regions. ❌ "Wearing glasses makes your eyesight worse faster" - Properly fitted glasses not only won't worsen myopia but can also relieve eye strain and slow down the progression of vision loss. ❌ "Goldfish have a memory of only 7 seconds" - Experiments have shown that goldfish can remember maze routes and distinguish colors and shapes, with memories lasting weeks or even months. ❌ "Plucking one white hair will cause ten to grow back" - Each hair corresponds to an independent follicle. Plucking a white hair won't increase the number of follicles or cause more white hairs to grow. ❌ "You can boil a frog in warm water" - Experiments indicate that frogs can easily jump out when they feel uncomfortable. ❌ "Placing a cactus next to your computer absorbs radiation" - Computers emit low-energy, non-ionizing radiation, and cacti do not possess special functions to absorb or shield electromagnetic radiation. These rumors spread widely often because they are simply stated, align with intuition, and are easy to remember. The best way to debunk them is to ask, "Where's the evidence?" when you encounter a statement that "sounds too good to be true." Turns out I was a rumor spreader too 🤣 Goldfish memory, 10% brain usage, boiling frog... all wrong 🤣

I'm curious if it's true that pointing at the moon cuts off your ears. Nothing happens when I point, but a relative of mine actually pointed at it and their ear bled the next day.

The 'boiling frog' analogy probably refers to a specific method, like raising the temperature very slowly so the frog doesn't notice the discomfort. If an experiment were done to prove this wrong, they likely wouldn't heat it that slowly! If the frog clearly notices its feet getting hot, it'll obviously jump away!
