There are no flashy battles, only mind games, strategy, and counter-espionage. Every decision affects the lives of everyone. The escape arc in Season 1 has incredible pacing, with suspense dialed up to the max throughout. The gentle, fairytale-like art style hides a cold and cruel world. Quick tip: Season 1 is peak quality. Season 2's anime adaptation received very mixed reviews, so prioritize watching Season 1 first.

This plot has similarities to a movie from many years ago. In the movie's plot, a group of people lived in a closed world, believing that working hard would lead them to heaven. Until someone discovered that it was actually a cloning facility. When someone was chosen to ascend, they were actually taken to have their organs harvested for the original clone master to replace their own organs. After the password was discovered, these people began to plan their escape. During the escape, some betrayed, some were killed, but in the end, they found the exit and escaped together. Only then did they discover that the outside world was completely different from what the administrators had said.

It's a work that's hard to put into words. The themes, structure, suspense, and plot twists were all handled well, but when I try to recommend it to someone, the second season just cuts off, making it impossible not to continue watching. It's frustrating to be left hanging without an ending, and it doesn't get resolved through other media (manga, novels) either. Overall, I wouldn't particularly recommend it, but I don't want to bash it either. The subject matter is certainly appealing though...
